Soon Forgotten

They won't be remembered
No one will ever know
They didn't have the chance
to set your heart aglow.
They lived their life in a Shelter
Just one of many more
They weren't considered worthy
Nor that anyone could adore.
They never even knew their names
For it seemed a waste of time
Just an ID number or a pen
No Abby, Prince or Dime.
They crossed that Rainbow Bridge today
With no one there to care
No teary eyes nor gentle touch
Their life was just not fair.
But I will be remembering
Each night as work is done
For I'm the simple volunteer
who loved each and every one
